Professor Shalabh is well-known in the fields of statistics and data science and is currently a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He earned his MSc and PhD in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Lucknow, with postdoctoral fellowships from the University of Pittsburgh, USA and the University of Munich, Germany, where he developed his expertise in statistical methodologies and data analysis. He has a career spanning 31 years of teaching and research. Throughout his tenure at IIT Kanpur, Professor Shalabh has held important administrative positions, including Dean of Academic Affairs, and has been a member of the Board of Governors, Chairman, and Vice Chairman of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, and has worked in numerous institute-level committees. Notably, his leadership as the Organising Chairman of JEE (Advanced) in 2018 transformed the pen-and-paper test into a computer-based one, revolutionising the examination landscape in India. Professor Shalabh has published over 125 research papers and four books. One of his books has been downloaded more than 5.5 million times. He's won awards such as the Jan Tinbergen Award, National Award for eGovernance, the Professor CR Rao National Award in Statistics, the Mahalanobis Memorial Medal, and the Excellence in Teaching Award, among others. He has received the Humboldt fellowship and BOYSCAST fellowship. Professor Shalabh is actively involved in MOOCs and is a pioneer in disseminating knowledge of R software across the country through his online courses. He has been the associate editor of esteemed journals like the Journal of Multivariate Analysis. Professor Shalabh's impact on societal welfare and eGovernance is clear through his research projects in using the power of artificial intelligence and data science to analyze grievances, thereby empowering citizens across India. His collaborative projects with governmental bodies such as the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances underscore his research for societal good. As a member of various national-level committees, Professor Shalabh continues to shape policies and initiatives in education and governance. Through his multifaceted contributions, Professor Shalabh exemplifies the ethos of academic excellence, leadership, and service to society. |
